Normal English vs Business English Verbs
Everyday verbs like talk, ask and explain are useful, but in business situations there are more professional alternatives that make your emails, meetings and presentations sound polished. In this short video, you will learn six simple verb upgrades. Instead of talk, use discuss, as in Let's discuss the budget. Note that we say discuss something, not discuss about something. Instead of ask, use inquire, which is perfect for formal requests for information. Instead of explain, use clarify, especially when something was confusing. Instead of show, use present, as in I'll present the results tomorrow. Instead of answer, use respond, which sounds more professional in emails. And instead of tell, use inform, as in Please inform the team about the changes. These verbs are widely used in offices, business emails, reports and job interviews, so learning them will help you communicate with more confidence. You do not need to replace every simple verb, but using the business version in formal situations shows a strong professional vocabulary. Watch the video, repeat each pair out loud and try writing one sentence with each business verb. Practice them in your next email, and your English will sound clearer and more professional.
