Types of Factories
English has specific words for factories depending on what they produce, and using the general word factory for all of them sounds less precise. This lesson covers eight examples. An oil factory is called a refinery, while a wine factory is called a winery. A beer factory is a brewery, and a liquor factory is a distillery, both related to alcohol production but using different terms. A cheese factory is called a creamery, and a sweets factory is a confectionery, while a bread factory is simply called a bakery. Finally, a flour factory is called a mill, a term also used historically for grinding grain. Learning these specific terms will make your vocabulary sound more precise and professional, especially useful when discussing food production, industries, or specific business types in English. Practice using the correct term instead of defaulting to the general word factory.
