Basic vs Advanced English: Agreeing and Disagreeing

Sound more fluent in discussions. Learn five advanced English alternatives to basic ways of agreeing and disagreeing with people.

Agreeing and disagreeing are part of almost every conversation, but many learners only use 'yes', 'no' and 'you're right'. In this video, you will learn five advanced alternatives that make you sound more natural and expressive. Instead of 'yes', say 'absolutely' to show strong agreement. Instead of a direct 'no', try 'not really', which sounds softer and more polite. Replace 'I think so' with 'I suppose so', which shows agreement with a little hesitation. Instead of 'I don't think so', say 'I doubt it', a natural and confident way to disagree. Finally, swap 'you're right' for 'you've got a point', which shows you accept part of someone's argument without fully agreeing. These upgrades help you express different levels of agreement, which is exactly what native speakers do. Sometimes you agree completely, sometimes partly, and sometimes not at all. Having the right phrase for each situation makes your English sound much more mature. Use them in meetings, debates, exams like IELTS and everyday chats with friends. Watch the video, notice the gestures and tone, and repeat each pair. Then practice answering simple questions using the advanced version instead of the basic one.
