Types of Trees and Plants in English
When you describe a park, a garden or a holiday destination, using the word 'tree' for everything can sound limited. In this video, you will learn four nature words that help you describe landscapes more clearly in English. A 'bush' is a plant that is smaller than a tree and has many branches growing close to the ground. You often see bushes in gardens and along roads. A 'palm' is a tall tropical tree with large leaves at the top, common on beaches in warm countries. A 'pine' is an evergreen tree with thin, needle-like leaves and cones. It stays green all year and often grows in mountains and cold places. A 'cactus' is a desert plant with thick stems and sharp spines that stores water. The plural is 'cacti' or 'cactuses'. Notice that all these words use the article 'a' because they start with consonant sounds. Try using them in sentences: There are palm trees along the beach. The mountains are full of pine trees. Watch the video, repeat each word, and practice describing nature photos or places you have visited using this richer English vocabulary.
