This vs. These Confusion
Are you saying this shoes instead of these shoes? You’re not alone! Many English learners confuse this and these, but it’s an easy fix.
In this video, Mia says I like this shoes, and Isabella helps her correct it. Since shoes is a plural noun, the correct phrase is these shoes. Use this for one thing (singular), and these for more than one (plural).
For example:
• This shirt (one)
• These jeans (more than one)
And when talking about things far away, switch to that and those:
• That bag (one item far away)
• Those hats (many items far away)
Clear, real-life dialogue makes it easy to remember. This short, fun video helps you speak with confidence and avoid one of the most common ESL mistakes.
Whether you’re shopping, pointing out objects, or just chatting, knowing when to use this or these makes your English more natural and correct.
