Sound Less Basic in English
Many English learners rely on the same basic phrases repeatedly, even after reaching an intermediate level, which can make speech sound simple. This lesson covers natural upgrades to seven common expressions. Instead of thank you, say I really appreciate it, and instead of sorry, say I apologize. You are welcome becomes my pleasure, and excuse me becomes pardon me in more formal contexts. When you don't have information, I have no idea sounds more natural than I don't know, and come again is a common way to ask someone to repeat something. Other useful upgrades include saying could you clarify instead of I don't understand, and how is it going instead of how are you. These phrases are simple to learn but immediately make your English sound more mature and natural in everyday conversation. Practicing these small swaps regularly will help you break out of repetitive, basic phrasing without needing to learn entirely new vocabulary.
