Stop Saying Discuss About: The Correct Way
Many English learners say 'I will discuss about this with my manager.' It is easy to understand, but it is not correct, and native speakers notice it immediately. The reason is simple: the verb 'discuss' already includes the meaning of 'about', so it takes a direct object. We say 'discuss something', not 'discuss about something'. In this video, you will learn three natural ways to say it. First, 'I'll discuss this with my manager.' Just remove 'about'. Second, 'I'll talk to my manager about this.' With 'talk', we do need 'about', which is why many learners get confused. Third, 'I'll bring this up with my manager.' The phrasal verb 'bring up' means to mention or raise a topic, and it is very common at work. Note that the noun form is different: we say 'a discussion about something', so 'about' is correct after the noun. This mistake often comes from translating directly from your first language. Watch the video, repeat each correct sentence, and practice by talking about topics you need to discuss this week. Fixing small errors like this will make your English sound more accurate and professional.
