Fixing Grammar Mistakes in Pop Songs

Popular songs are fun, but not always correct! Learn real grammar by fixing common mistakes in famous English lyrics.

Pop stars may know how to make a hit—but their grammar isn’t always perfect! In this fun video, we break down real lyrics from two famous songs to highlight common English grammar mistakes.

First up: Cardi B in Bodak Yellow. She says:
“These is red bottoms, these is bloody shoes.”
But in standard English, “these” needs “are”, not “is”. The correct version is:
“These are red bottoms, these are bloody shoes.”

Next, Meghan Trainor in All About That Bass. She sings:
“My mama she told me don’t worry.”
This is an example of a double subject. The fix?
“My mama told me don’t worry.”

This video helps learners at A2–B1 levels spot common grammar issues like subject-verb agreement and pronoun use, using catchy examples they’ll never forget.

You’ll improve your grammar, laugh a little, and start hearing English mistakes everywhere—even in your favorite songs!
